Are Protein Supplements Good for Young Athletes? with Stuart Phillips
April 25, 2019
Are protein supplements doing my young athlete any good? Are they even safe, let alone helping them develop and grow? As the mother of a collegiate swimmer, this is a subject close to my heart that has come up in my own family. To help suss out the answers to those questions, I have an expert on the show this week with young athletes of his own, and I can’t wait for you to hear his eye-opening insights into protein supplementation.
Dr. Phillips is an amazing researcher in the field of protein and exercise. He is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and School of Medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Phillips is also a Tier 1 Research Chair in skeletal muscle health in aging, as well as the director of the Physical Activity Center of Excellence.
Join us on the podcast this week as we discuss the convenience of using protein supplements, what the role of a protein supplement should be, how safe they are, how much you should be using, and which athletes will benefit from using protein supplements the most. If you’ve been going along with the advice that all protein supplements are bad, this podcast will set the record straight.
